Robert Dungey received his formative ballet training from Glenn Gilmour, Sergiu Stefanschi and Olga Evreinoff at the National Ballet School of Canada (NBS) under the artistic direction of Betty Oliphant.
After graduating from NBS, Robert flew from Toronto to The Hague to audition for Nederlands Dans Theater 2. One week later he was offered a contract with NDT2 under the direction of Arlette van Boven.
Two years later he joined the main company – Nederlands Dans Theater – under the direction of Jiří Kylián. During his time at NDT, he danced and created works with Hans van Manen, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Nacho Duato, Angelin Prelijocaj and Kylián.
Following his dance career, Robert retrained as a British lawyer. He obtained a law degree from the University of London followed by a master’s degree in law from the University of Westminster. Robert was Called to the Bar of England and Wales by his Inn of Court (Middle Temple in 2010. He now works for Her Majesty’s government in London.
Robert is the founder of Dance Artists International.
